Autism, ADHD & Homeopathy: My Story and What I’ve Learned
Last year I received a late diagnosis of autism and ADHD — in my 50s. It was a moment of clarity that helped me understand myself in a new way. Looking back, so much suddenly made sense: the patterns, challenges, and ways I had navigated life.
It hasn’t always been easy, but this diagnosis has given me language for experiences I’ve lived with for decades. It has also deepened my empathy as a practitioner. Living with neurodivergence means I don’t just understand these challenges in theory — I’ve felt them in my own life.
And through it all, one constant has supported me: homeopathy. I’ve been seeing a homeopath for more than 30 years, and it continues to play an important role in my health and wellbeing today.
How Homeopathy Can Support
Homeopathy is not about labels or diagnoses; it is about the individual. For people with autism or ADHD, that can make a big difference. The consultation process itself offers something rare: the chance to be fully heard without judgement. That in itself can be healing.
Homeopathic remedies may also support some of the everyday challenges that come with being neurodivergent:
Overwhelm and sensory sensitivity — when the world feels “too much
Difficulty focusing or restlessness — when attention drifts or energy spikes.
Sleep issues and anxiety — often companions of a busy or racing mind.
Every person is different, and remedies are chosen individually. Homeopathy doesn’t “cure” autism or ADHD — and it shouldn’t claim to. But it can support the whole person in finding more balance, resilience, and ease.
A Practitioner’s Perspective
My own late diagnosis has shaped how I practise. It has made me especially attentive to the ways neurodivergent patients might communicate, experience, or process information.
Because I’ve lived some of those challenges myself, I feel better placed to connect and empathise. I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, to struggle with focus, or to worry about fitting into a world that often feels built for others. That lived experience has given me an added layer of understanding in my work.
A Journey of Discovery
Being diagnosed in my 50s was not an ending, but the start of a new chapter. It has been a journey of discovery, both personally and professionally. Homeopathy has been alongside me throughout — offering support, steadiness, and insight when I’ve needed it most.
I share this not just as a practitioner, but as someone who has walked this path. For anyone who is neurodivergent, or loves someone who is, homeopathy may offer a gentle and supportive way forward.
